My magazine is intended to be an "indie" magazine, so I am basing my magazine off an issue of 'filmcomment' magazine featuring Tom Hanks.
So I started off with a white background and produced a very pale grey smaller rectangle to mimic a frame.
I then moved on to chose my image.
Indie magazines use just 1 element of mise en scene or 1 prop to focus on apart from the main actor.
For example in the issue featuring Tom Hanks the image is black and white and the featured prop is a chair. In an issue of ShortList magazine featuring Miles Teller his fingers have been lengthened and twisted this isn't noticeable straight away.
I wanted to use mise en scene for my second focus element especially since this is my specific role.
We bought a piano themed tie for our character to wear.
The image I chose shows him slightly smirking with his top shirt button undone and his tie draped around his collar loosely, to show that the article we have featured is opening up another side to the actor and the character.
This is the image I used from my set of photos:
I changed the image to black and white by lowering the saturation, and the black and white simply relates to the piano perfectly.
I placed my image quite central but overlapping the frame at the top and bottom to add another layer of depth to the cover.
