Production: Film Poster Production 7

I got rid of the BBFC logo to make room for my certificate rating since the BBFC recognition wasn't necessary.

Production: Film Poster Production 6

The following image shows the last elements I have added to my poster.

I have added the two distribution company logos that we have used in the trailer:
BBFC and FILM4.
I then added the production company logos, including the updated Weinstein logo and our own Key Productions logo.
I aligned these along the bottom of the poster along with our website for our movie "www.danthemovie.co.uk"

Production: Social Media Feedback Poster Update

I showed a few of my friends the nearly completed version of my poster.
Since the last update I moved the wreaths down to fill up some more of the space the sky creates.
I have repositioned DAN responding to previous feedback.
I have also added the group decided tag line
"Second chances don't come very often."

Production: Film Poster Production 5

These two screen grabs are showing the slight change in text between the two lines of tagline.
The first line which is placed above the red band in the cloud still keeps to the grey colour scheme, but the colour was too light to see on it's own against the clouds, so I added a drop shadow and slight bevel to make this text stand out more.
I also wanted to alternate the colour, so the first line still uses the pale grey seen on the credits, but the second line uses the darker grey used in the title.

I split lines either side of the red band to mimic the filling of empty space in the middle of the poster.

Production: Social Media Feedback Poster

I sent this unfinished version of my poster to a few people to gain some outsider feedback and opinions.

AISHA:
PAIGE:
SARAH:
HANNAH:

Having read and absorbed this feedback I am going to act on a few of the comments made and shrink the size of the steel tongs credits slightly and re-position my title and change the actors names to capital letters.

Production: Film Poster Production 4

I used STEEL TONGS font to create the movie like credits. We applied our specific roles to the credits for example my roles are Editing and Mise en Scene so I have been credited as Assistant Director, Co-producer, Writer, Editor, Special Effects Co-ordinater, Costume Designer and Story writer.
Whereas Aisha who has been allocated Sound she has been credited with, Co-director, Producer, Editor and Music co-ordinater. Finally Paige who has the role of Cinematography has been credited with, Director, Director of Photography, Editor, Casting Director, Line Producer and Visual Effects Co-ordinater.

I changed the font colour to the lighter grey in the highlighted parts of the title. The pale grey shows up on the various colours along the foot of the poster.

Underneath the credits I have added a COMING SOON section. The text needs to stand out more than the credits so I changed the size to 34pt. and changed the typeface to a bold Century Gothic and added the same Drop Shadow that I added to the title.

Across the top of the poster are the main actors/actresses names. Our main character is Robert Eades, Gary Sparham is the University lecturer and interviewer, and Jessica Wilde isn't shown in the trailer but is our main characters absent, alcholic mother.
In social realism trailers not all characters are shown so we are keeping some mystery surrounding his mother.
I also added the wreaths underneath the names spaced out evenly to promote the film.

This is what the top of the poster looks like right now. I will possibly move the title lower down and make it slightly bigger to stand out even more against the wreaths, and I also need to add a tagline.

Production: Award Wreaths

These are the three wreaths we made to accompany our trailer and posters.
We got a template of the wreath shape and uploaded that into Photoshop and we then decided on our film festival and award categories and placed the text fitting inside the wreath along with the film festival logo.
We chose Manchester International Film Festival to show how independent our film is and to keep the local status.

I chose BFI London Film Festival since I hear it being talked about all the time, meaning the festival carries some sort of reputation. BFI also keeps the distribution very British orientated.
Raindance Film Festival is again a London based festival but with an even higher reputation as the winners from this festival go on to recieve BAFTA and OSCAR nominations.

Production: Film Poster Production 3

I took inspiration from the Submarine film poster to add blocks of colour. The blocks fo colour add an interesting edge to the poster and makes sure the poster isn't too bland. The two colours represent the characters emotions.
I placed the thicker red bar over his face to represent his anger which is the most prominent feature of his personality. The smaller blue bar represents his greif and upset from his father dying and the stress of day to day life.

The next part of this post is based around the title of our film.
I used the same font we have been using throughout the trailer which is Century Gothic and to make the title stand out against other sections of text I added a thick drop shadow and a bevel to give the text a raised edge to look 3D. I chose a grey colour because black looked too harsh against the sky, and the grey shows up better with the credits at the bottom of the poster.
(Bevel & Emboss)

(Drop shadow)

This is the final look at the title on my poster with the cloud background. The blue toned grey ties in with the darker clouds so fits quite well with the rest of my poster.
I also positioned the text in the middle of the sky and is size 120pt. However I am thinking of making this larger after adding a tag line.

Production: Film Poster Production 2

The next stage of my poster production was to perfect the layout of my two mid shots. The hood on the left hand image takes up quite a large amount of space on the poster making his head look smaller, but to make the mid shots a similar size the image on the right has to be a little bigger for them to match and look symmetrical.

After looking through my possible poster backgrounds of the sky and trees, the textured clouds worked the best. I didn't alter the hue and saturation of the photo and kept the natural colours.

Production: Photos for Poster Background

These four images could possibly be used as a background for my poster. Whatever image I end up choosing will be blurred out as to not take away from my characters expression and so the title of the film can be read clearly. I have images with blue tones to reflect his emotions throughout the trailer.
I also wanted the background to be related to the sky in some way to continue with the metaphor of his head " being up in the clouds" chasing his dreams.

Production: Film Poster Production 1

These are the two images I have chosen and to cut out the cream and uneven background I first of all used the magic wand tool to get rid of most of the background, this left an uneven edge around the photos especially the first image with the hood.
The easiest way to cut out the excess background around the hood was to use the smudge tool and grab the outer most points and drag inwards towards the head. The cream colour then blends with the brown on the fur so there is no obvious harsh line against the plain white background on my poster.

This second image was relatively easy to cut out since here is no uneven texture apart from his hair. The magic wand also doesn't recognise shadows so I had to carefully erase the left over shadows.

I then cropped both images to half-face figures and using mid shots from the chest up to display his two sides to his personality and showing his two different outfits.

Research & Planning: The Weinstein Company

Originally we chose Pathe productions to add into our trailer as a production/distribution company that would collaborate with our production comapany to create our trailer. After putting all the neseccary scenes in we knew we needed to shorten the Pathe clip since it lasted fourteen seconds. Whilst doing this we watched the Submarine trailer and noticed they used a company called Weinstein so I did a little background research.
The Weinstein Company is a mini-major film studio that produces and distributes films around the globe. The company involves itself mainly with social-realism, drama and historical-biographical films, making it perfect to fit into our category.

So instead we replaced Pathe with Weinstein resulting also in a shorter clip.

Production: Finished Magazine Feedback

I created a SurveyMonkey questionnaire for people to fill in, in regards to my film magazine.
These are the responses I got back:
