Research & Planning: Second group meeting: social media conversation

Our second group meeting happened over our group chat on Facebook.
Our original idea had the character being diagnosed with bipolar, but after discussing we decided to change that to anger issues as it would be easier to portray and doesn't have to be triggered, yet anger issues can be triggered, so it fits in with the single alcoholic parent, and no male role model.
We also dismissed the idea of a whole counselling scene in the trailer simply because we were getting too carried away, and not everything has to be shown in a trailer, some things are left to the interpretation of the audience.
We also decided to add in some more scenes around college to show work getting on top of him, adding to his own struggles triggering his anger.

Research & Planning: Animatic Storyboard

This is our animatic storyboard for the original set of storyboards. Some of the scenes might have to be cut, or shot differently depending on the time of year, weather conditions or being pushed for time within the trailer limit.

Natural lighting for college scenes
Torch light flares for night time outside footage
Low key/high key lighting for bedroom scenes to cast natural depressing shadows

Own composition as background music.

Messy hair (restless nights no sleep)
Audition: slick hair and wide awake, trying to make the best impression he can.

Colour:
Cool tones to show emotion and create a dull atmosphere.
No switching between colour and black & white footage because it will disrupt the flow of the trailer and create the wrong impression.

Cinematography:
Decanted angles to show disorientation and him flipping out to show his anger issues.
Panning and tracking shots to keep up with the fast pace anger reactions.
Establishing shots to set up the different settings and locations, and to show emptiness to imply his isolation from others.
Fades to black
Major series of jump cuts to make time go past quickly.

Research & Planning: Story board for our trailer

Here are the story boards for our trailer.
Numerous scenes are very similar in concept. That's to emphasise his feelings and emotions at all time, showing that his anger and frustration is never temporary. These scenes will run on a continous cycle with a voiceover.
