This is our main character/actor. He is a typical college student who himself is applying to university, and knows the struggles first hand. His casual clothing represents a typical college student. The monochrome outfit relates to his bleak and plain feelings towards life.
After evaluating the final auditions we picked our actor.
We decided on Robert Eades for our actor as he:
-Was able to get in touch with his emotiona
-Was able to channel the character well
-His pronunciation was clear and loud
-His accent allows the character to be fully British and accomodate Northern phrases
-Was able to use body language to communicate his emotions
-Was able to improvise
-He looks relatively average (meaning he doesn't have coloured hair, piercings or tattoos)
-Is able to play the piano to an extent
-Has the best timetable to fit with ours.
After watching through and discussing the auditions as a group we decided to have a male character, to go against the stereotype of a woman being the vulnerable character.
Out of the 3 male actors that auditioned we picked Carlos Pereira and Robert Eades to partake in a final audition based off improvisation.
We created a councilling scene where Aisha would play the part of the councillor and our actor would have to get into character to express their emotions and thoughts relating to various factors in their life.
Before the auditions took place Aisha went through the made up situation with both of our actors seperatley just to make sure they understood what we wanted. We filmed Aisha talking to Carlos about the audition about to take place:

Analysis: In the first clip we liked the fact that Carlos wasn't afraid to change the script and express his own feelings as the character. On to the audition Carlos was very involved in his characters lifestyle, he did well referencing the family situation with his mother being an alcoholic and his musical talent side of things not going to plan.
However the main issue we had with his audition was his confidence. Our character is set to be lonely, quiet and insecure, Carlos exuded the exact opposite, the amount of swearing involved was good in relation to his anger management but on the other hand the way he delivered these lines expressed by his body language was as if he had no trouble talking to people which isn't the case within our story.
Robert's Final Audition:
We were very impressed with Robert's audition, as he showed the right balance between being nervous but angry. He displayed other ways of being angry apart from verbally. He used swearing when appropriate, banging the table, his body language and facial expressions were exactly what we wanted. He allowed himself to open up slighty but because of his attitude and general demeanour he stuttered not knowing what to say and where to start.
All the people that auditioned for our trailer had the opportunity to read over the lines we wanted to be spoken with certain emotion and we filmed a few different attempts but only one audition would be counted in the end.
Audition 1: Robert Byrnes
Robert had two attempts and didn't manage to finish the lines on either attempt.
His attitude towards his mother was exactly what we were looking for however his ability to improvise was minimal.
Audition 2: Carlos Pereira
Carlos also had 2 attempts and managed to complete his audition second time round. His ability to improvise was very appealing, as it allowed him to have his own take on our character's emotions. The only thing that was an issue is how quiet he was and his pronunciation wasn't overly clear.
Audition 3: Natalie Tomniak
We were giving some leway when it came to reading from the paper especially since we knew that the speech would be in voiceover format anyway, so learning lines wasn't neseccary for our trailer.
However Natalie did express some emotion and provided emphasis on some words but not exactly what we were looking for, as she didn't grasp the full frustration of our character.
Audition 4: Mia Finlay
Mia's audition was very promising. She had the confidence, she had all the neseccary emotion and the key improvisation techniques for our script.
Audition 5: Robert Eades
Robert's audition was also quite promising, he has the diction needed so that even if he wasn't making direct eye contact with the camera his voice could still be heard. He was able to grasp the mix of frustration and sadness he has regarding his mother and father. He also has the look of a character who has no problems but it's all on the inside.
Audition 6: Kadie Bardsley
Kadie was rather nervous before her audition, but we needed confidence. Kadie's audition was quite monotone in voice, not showing any change of emotion or expression which was unfortunate.
Audition 7: Lebonetse Khubamang
Lebonetse's audition was very well done. She was able to get in touch with her emotions instantly which is extremely useful. However her voice doesn't have much projection even in a completely quiet room, therefore meaning speech that has to be done outside or in crowded environments would prove difficult.
Audition 8: Caitlin Norbury
Caitlin didn't take her audition seriously and even after 3 attempts she was only able to complete one line inbetween laughter and jokes.
